There is always other side of the coin.
I had a bad experience of not being allowed to explain on my side when there was once an issue arise. Since then , I always start to see things from different perspective prior judging something. With all fairness , I would like to share some info about the school, SK Pristana which came under fire by many Netizen today.
I have visited the school just now and here are the findings :

With all fairness , I would like to share some info about the school, SK Pristana which came under fire by many Netizen today.
I have visited the school just now and here are the findings :
- The school canteen was facing problem in accommodating 350 students(the school has 1300 students) who go for recess at same time. This was happening since January 2013
- The students were siting around the canteen (perimeter) as the canteen is small and could not cater all of them
- The HM who saw this decided to use one of the changing room which is located FEW meters RIGHT infront of the canteen.
- This changing room which were equipped with chairs and tables has been operating SINCE March 2013 and not recently as claimed by some blogs. This was an initiative taken by HM to avoid pupil from sitting around the canteen under hot sun.
- Until the beginning of Ramadhan ALL students including Malays were using this room as their 'canteen'. So stop your racial cards
- There is NO..I repeat NO.. toilet located anywhere near by the changing room(currently used) . There is NO toilet bowl inside the changing room too. There are only two changing rooms for male and female respectively located side by side as per pic below
- You can argue why there is sign of ' Tandas' here.. well that is not 'tandas'. It is changing room. There is NO toilet bowl at all and if you watch closely the student is actually taking out shoe to enter the 'Tandas'(the one on left). The shoes are out there..why?? Anyone who goes to toilet does that? In which school? Anyway this shoes are allowed in this temporary 'canteen'.
- HM decided to use one of the changing room (male) bcs it has facilities like water supply. It is also placed very near to the canteen as in few meters. It is also easy for the kids to buy and eat somewhere nearby canteen. The female changing room are also placed with tables and chairs but not being used at the moment.
- Some people asked 'Why not used classrooms or library?' The temporary room has better facilities..water...sinks... and placed just few meters infront canteen..Classrooms and library dont have all these..and located far from canteen. Since my day of schooling we dont practice eating inside classroom...
- There are 3 Non-Malay teachers teaching in that school. 2 Indians and an Asli. All of them are aware of this and has no problem with this temporary solution at all. Dont you think if Indians are really being treated badly these two teachers would have raged over it?
- School PIBG are aware of this matter as well. They agree for the 'canteen' to operate
- The parent who posted this matter in FB only visited the school after being told by a school bus driver that children were eating inside the TOILET. She didnt know that this has been happening since Mac 2013 .
- The school has been directed to close down this temporary canteen and better alternative requested which has been agreed by the HM.
This is the other side the story that we all failed to understand. The only question that the HM and the school failed to answer is ' Why the canteen has been closed during Ramadhan? ' Arent these small no of children also need to eat? This is not fair for the Non-Muslim kids. I hope the school will prepare an alternate place for recess..ofcourse somewhere better.
I am glad that the school has close down the canteen. No matter what it is inappropriate to eat there and I hope they can introduce two recess period to avoid overcrowded issue like this.

Whether its right or wrong... I let you guys to judge.. I have visited the school and this is the story that I can provide to you guys. If you guys are not satisfied, follow me tomorrow to the school. We can see it together. PIBG will be there as well. Email me if you are coming draam88@gmail.com .

ReplyDeleteBuka puasa there for a show?
DeleteCall the DPM and Education Minister to buka puasa here asap...we will see how things turn up then..
DeleteHave they been buka puasa there since the 1st day or just only yesterday? But the children have been using the shower room since March, everyday! And why the teachers still chose to buka puasa there yesterday: 1) since the issue has been highlighted ysterday and 2) the canteen is actually avaliable for buka puasa yesterday? Are they trying to justify that what they had done is right, that is eating in an inappropriate place (shower room) when an appropriate place (canteen) is avalible, but choose not to do do? Are they trying to send the wrong message to all the muslim and non muslim students there? Then the students will get confused and think it is appropriate to eat mana mana mereka suka.
DeleteBro, I just read your blog regarding the school canteen..Now I got a clear picture regarding the actual situation of SK Pristana..I'm glad that a responsible citizen like you explain things 'evidance based' rather than simply dragging racist issue. Although I'm not in Malaysia currently but I read a lot of stories regarding this issue online. Thanks a lot bro for the full explanation and I'm proud of you..Carry on your good work and God Bless You..

Deletewell done :)
Deletewell done :)
DeleteIn my school, we had to remove our shoes and changed into slippers or clogs to go into the toilet. But that's beside the point. I still do not agree on letting the students eat in changing room. I am sure in such a big school there could be other alternatives. Maybe spliting the recess sessions (have 2 sessions) like how many other schools practice should there be a shortage of space. And they let that prolong for so many months. It's just not right. We are not here to say we are right but it breaks my heart to see this happening to our children.
ReplyDeletejangan cakap saja... buat sesuatu yang kamu rasa bagus...
DeleteThis is the picture of the canteen

I totally agree with you, it is still NOT okay to be eating in a changing room. Your suggestion of breaking into 2 recess session is a good one to be considered or alternatively they can use the school hall (my secondary school did that).
DeleteSo of cause the teachers had to 'buka puasa' in the the changing room too, this to me seems like an act to overcome this recent complains. Lols. If you have a children of your own, would you want them eating in a changing room?
you said it like they never thought of it. -_- read the article properly lah. other alternatives does not have the facilities and its far for the children. some people...
DeleteTotally agree with you....
DeleteTotally agree with you....it shows that the HM nor the teachers in the school could think out of the box for alternative solutions as you have suggested....
Deletedon't you heart breaks by looking the teachers eating in the "toilet"?
Deletethe issue are still the same; it's not toilet, but it's changing room. and talks about alternative, why don't people bother to come there and ask them what can we help them on this issue? I believe from the article, it did mention the PIBG also clear on this matter, so why it hasn't been object by the member before? BUMP! the problem here when "ignorant parents" just trying to being a hero without do proper investigation; which is wrong because he/she are circulate incorrect information. do any people bash him/her do that? did he/she apologies on spreading the untruthful information?
I just feel bad to those teacher who help our kids to be smart, and the same time to protect them from...anything. clearly they just want to make sure those kids aren't whining around next to the drain (which is clear disgusting) or ill because of direct sunlight.
I'm not support the school management prosedure, but if I in his/her shoes, I would rather ask the school management why this happening and ask them what I can help to avoid this matter. helping is not just about money.
So..what the alternative solutions would you have to suggest if you could think out of the box....Ping suggest that the recess sessions to be split in two sessions...I agreed with the solution...maybe the PIBG have also agreed with the alternative solution taken by the Headmaster and the teachers...once again..I agreed with what Muhd Syazwan replied. There's a Malay Proverb said....Terlajak perahu boleh diundur..terlajak kata atau perbuatan ..mana nak letak muka....

that is NOT a toilet. There is not toilet bowls. Pls read the blog line by line. So, your line "from place where we clean ourselves or ease ourselves" is out of place.
DeleteWell my good person "Anonymous", my context is on what is preceived out there. Ok, iwould not go defensive on this as it is just childish. Just gocus on the issue my friend. You got suggestions?
DeleteI bring your attention to this reply even if I find it better to work on solutions.

"Memang itu bilik persalinan, tetapi dalamnya ada dua bilik mandi, ada dua tandas. Macam mana sekolah boleh bagi mereka makan dalam tandas kan," kata Rebecca Joseph .Why not listen to the person who WENT IN the room before?Reply
sure rightly true cos no shit seen anywhere around.
DeleteI think that this is still bad judgement to use that changing room. As far as people are concern, food is to be eaten as far away as possible from place where we clean ourselves or ease ourselves.
ReplyDeleteI do not think that was a right solution. If as you say congestion/overcrowding was the issue, why not have two recess period, one for lower primary (Year 1- 3) then later (Year 4 - 6) This would be better don't you think? The smaller kids would also not have to joust with the elder ones for food or bullying of the young ones is also avoided.
Sadly, I agree the issue is blown out of proportion but this issue could have been avoided if better judgement is used.
Hi bro, whether its temporary solution or permanent solution... its not a matter. Do we eat at the place we take our shower? Do we still leave in poor country?
ReplyDeleteAs you said the "Bathroom" is operating as a canteen since march 2013 & all the students were sharing the place no matter non Muslims or what. & non of the parents is aware bout this.
Touch your heart & tell. If you was the HM & your kids is studying at the same school. Will you have the heart to ask them eat at so call "Bathroom" ??? (Toilet or bathroom its still the same).
Have to take action on the HM. Muslim or non Muslim, they are small kids. We as a elder need to teach them the proper things. So they don't repeat the same mistake when they grown up.
Don't tell me the school don't have enough of money to build a temporary place for the kids to have their food. (This is Malay school which have full support of government)
If im a one of the kids parent. I swear I don't know what i will do with the HM.
go and see for urself la.
DeleteI have to agree with you on that. It's not the issue of race or politics here. It's an issue of a proper place to eat. How about the school's hall? Water is an issue, then make a place to wash nearby... don't tell me there's no pipe nearby and a temporary wash basin be made using a hose?
Deletetalk so much lah u. go do something then. dont need your kid to be in the school if you are so concerned. seriously, go there and truly understand the real situation lah. dont judge man. jeez.
DeleteWoi mangkuk.... lain kali orang suruh pegi mesyarat PIBG ko patut pegi.... tapi ko malas.... lepastu banyak cakap...
DeleteThis is a GOVERNMENT SCHOOL, not 'Malay' school, enough of the racial slant.
Deleteisn't parent is a member of PIBG? I think the "don't aware" group is the "ignorant" type of parent
Deletewei kiasu....ko tayah la bising...pegi sana...tgk sendiri... membebel ni mmg perangai kiasu..

Deletekenapa HM must be taken for action ?? , the liar like Guneswari Kelly just can let goo , too many lie in his FB , like non muslim students kena paksa makan dalam 'toilet' dan kena isolated ,of coz this is fabricating story !! is people like Guneswari free to lie and walk away with it !!!
DeleteShe also said non muslim students cannot go to canteen !!! what a liar laa this woman !!!
Non muslim students been treat badly in 'malay' school .. what an idiot laa this kind of Guneswari Kelly !!!

ReplyDeleteGood explanation bro!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update.
ReplyDeleteI quote the following paragraph from your post...
"...The school has been directed to close down this temporary canteen and better alternative requested which has been agreed by the HM..."
This is what should have been done and should have happened in the first place. Not an after thought.
And yes the school still has a case to answer on why shut down the canteen for Ramadan ? Are all other humans irrelevant ? Are we being ruled by the taliban ? Or just radical, racists ?
This is the picture of the canteen

Bro,
DeleteIf you are sincerely asking question to get an honest answer, please do not limited the answer to your choice of answers or try to suggest the answer. Your question ...
"And yes the school still has a case to answer on why shut down the canteen for Ramadan ? Are all other humans irrelevant ? Are we being ruled by the taliban ? Or just radical, racists ?"
.. shows that you have prejudged and having preconception of things, which may wrong and lead others to have the same thought.
If you need an honest answer, the question should just be "... why shut down the canteen for Ramadan?.." or to be precise, "... why shut down the canteen?", because the reason may not be because of Ramadhan.
Thanks for the update.
ReplyDeleteI quote the following paragraph from your post...
"...The school has been directed to close down this temporary canteen and better alternative requested which has been agreed by the HM..."

Agree. Changing room shall remain as changing room. Get budget to increase canteen capacity.
DeleteThe school has 95% muslim student. The canteen needs renovation. So which month is the most suitable date for renovation?
Deletebravo
ReplyDeleteif you went there, where are the pics?
ReplyDeleteThere is a difference between a changing room and a changing room with a shower.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the clarification but the poor leadership judgement by the school must be addressed.
Just because it has been going on since March does not make it right. Two wrongs do not make a right.
The more difficult question that you should answer is that why a canteen is being renovated or fixed up during school hours and Ramadan when this should be done during the holidays.
management problem...hope they fix it asap
Deletethank you bro... this is what we exactly need. i hope the parent read this... I am hurt when they insult my religion and blame ramadhan for what heppened.
ReplyDeleteFrom today u try to eat at tat place and send your kids this type of school....u said its changing room rather then eat at changing room I prefer classroom.. y not the stupid HM do change the rest time as split in to 2? Plz do use up ur brain bro... #maire1
ReplyDeletei "loled" to all the peoples that raged regarding this matters without know the true stories.

DeleteThanks for your effort to clear the issue.
ReplyDeleteWell good if you can tell the other part of story. Now let me ask a simple question. People can claim and accuse anything. Will you let you children to eat in any so call 'bilik persalinan/bilik air/tandas'? Its simple common sense these place are not to eat. and you claim "Some people asked 'Why not used classrooms or library?' The temporary room has better facilities..water...sinks... and placed just few meters infront canteen..Classrooms and library dont have all these..and located far from canteen. Since my day of schooling we dont practice eating inside classroom..." so are you saying been practicing eating in toilet/washroom/changing room? just wondering...
ReplyDeletebodoh la soklan hang ni aih... its your own perception... not him... stupid...
Deletetaking out shoes???are u dumb?? https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151757554406940&set=a.336611771939.154962.330360741939&type=1 see this then see if student had a shoes or not..
ReplyDeleteRead carefully bro.. taking their shoe to enter the toilet not the changing room.
DeleteThanks Dharm for informing us of the other side of the story. Quite unfair that only one side is played up
ReplyDeleteThank you for this clarifications
ReplyDeleteTried to be objective...thanks for the info.
ReplyDeletetq for the clarification
ReplyDeletewhether its a toilet or changing room, children whether Muslims or non-muslims should not be allowed to eat there....Come-on, you are thinking like a underdevelop citizen, countries like Bangaldesh, Cambodia an the rest also would not do tis kinda of thing. Putting up a canopy, tent or even chairs under tress could have easily solve the problem...
ReplyDeleteYou tink the teachers will complain to ppl higher.
Just because the PIBG knows means its ok..
Since your day of schooling, you did not practise eating in classrooms, so....you ate in bilik persalinan!!!
Thanks for the information. I still don't understand why the canteen has to be closed (according to rumours, it was closed to replace a door with a glass one?) during the whole of Ramadhan.
ReplyDeleteAnd another thing, why is there so many students out during recess at one time? Am I to believe that they release all the children all at once? Why not have sessioned recesses to allow a more comfortable eating experience for the children?
Another thing to take note is the length of time this problem has persisted. 7 months is a long time for the school not to take the necessary permanent actions to rectify the problem.
Anyways, thanks for the information. I'm sure the parent's reaction was just, I would have flipped out to if I heard someone I know having to eat lunch in a changing room without knowing the full details. Be that as it may, the problem is a big one, and has caught a lot of attention from the masses and I hope that the necessary people will take the necessary steps to move these children to a more suitable location.
Stupid comment...
ReplyDeleteMr Dhanyaraam Chinathamby , thank you for your explaination and further investigation. I hope this will clear up all the mess.
ReplyDeleteI am sure bujka puasa pictures taken recently to fool the public. If the canteen can accommodate some students then why not open for others to at least sit for lunch rather then sell lunch. Wonder how much you were paid to write this.
ReplyDeleteyeah!!!! true BN Lackey
DeleteNice fact finding, hmmmm... they could do what my old school did. Two recess session. Like Standard 1,2,3 10am recess, Standard 4,5,6 1030am
ReplyDeleteI stay in an apartment. We have 3 bed rooms and 2 bath rooms both with toilet bowls. We have our meals at a dining hall cum living room, which is just a few meters away from the toilets. As long as the toilets are kept clean most of the time, no one feels odd to have meals near the toilets. Hence what has been going on at that particular school is nothing odd for poor citizens like me. May be odd only for those who stay in big bungalows. OPajar www.4uni2c.com
ReplyDeletetak paham. pengetua tu da kreatif abis da utk selesaikan masalah cara terbaik. contoh2 komen spt tak patut wat camtu. makan kat bilik persalinan tak patut. penyelesaian masalah tak betul. bullshit. i say again. u all bullshit. pikir. sekolah menampung murid terlalu ramai dgn keadaaan sekolah yg kecil. mintak peruntukan lu orang igat bole dapat sehari dua? setahun dua pn belum tentu lulus lg. budak2 ni sekolah ari2, tiap2 tahun. penyelesaian yg tidak memerlukan modal yang banyak adalah perlu. so skarang kes ni satu malaysia tau. apa lagi, sapa yg dok cakap lebih, hulur la seribu dua, @ sepuluh ribu dua, upgrade facility diorang. kang kelua ayat " ini sume kerajaan perlu buat...." . yes, mostly orang2 pembangkang yg suke salah krajaan mmg berpikiran sempit mcm ni. tak salah kalau korang sendri klua kan duit utk skolah ni. and always think this quote " dont ask what country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country". i shud say, we shud respect the principal idea because he do take care of their problem in best possible ways. only 2nd class minded @ "live in the perfect book world" would think otherwise.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless You ....
ReplyDeleteI think the consistency of the pic is inreleveant..the blogger used other people picture to make irrelevant view pf the issues. To think about, why do thw blogger do not show the sign on the door of the toilet that the blogger claim it to be.
ReplyDeleteDont just believed in fact that people create from other blog. If this blogger came to school and search for explaination I will believe him. This blogger just used some one picture to create his on version of story not news.
ReplyDeleteSi Bodoh xtau beza Tandas dan Bilik Persalinan....mesti orang yg mulakan isu ni xsekolah!!
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid your expose didn't work bro cos:
ReplyDelete1. How big is the canteen that renovations cannot be completed since March 2013?
2. Many other pictures show the kids using shoes in there.
3. The PIBG want to buka puasa there is their problem, innocent children should not be forced to eat there.
4. PIBG kids follow parents to buka puasa there means their parents got issues. Anyway they're kids, what you think?
5. Have split recess time to accomodate 350 students.
6. You keep mentioning the changing room is used because "is located FEW meters RIGHT infront of the canteen.". The canteen is under renovation and can't be used, how is this a justification?
7. "Since my day of schooling we dont practice eating inside classroom..." - So it is better not to break that sacred rule and eat in a changing room?
8. "There are 3 Non-Malay teachers teaching in that school. 2 Indians and an Asli. All of them are aware of this and has no problem with this temporary solution at all. Dont you think if Indians are really being treated badly these two teachers would have raged over it?" - As you said 2 Indian teachers, what you think?
A better solution would be:
1. Do renovation during school holidays..DUH!
2. If cannot, put up a tent next to canteen - "is located FEW meters RIGHT infront of the canteen.". "next to canteen" would be less than a few metres away.
You look like a nice dude trying to clear up some "kecoh" here but seriously do you have any children yet? If not, get some soon and try to get them to eat in a nice looking changing room "a few metres away from canteen". Then ask your own heart how it feels.

Sir I salute u for trying to tell another stories behind this incidents and yes people should check before giving their opinion however u need to also check ur fact before u published ur story so people don't question ur credibility. .. even people breaking fast in d room is wearing shoes... tq
ReplyDeleteThanks for your explanation, but still I wonder why canteen closed during Ramadan. All other children are not human beings? I see that some of teachers and visitors eating in same location... may be after buka puasa. What is this ? They show to the public that they also eating there . Ridicolous. Are they eating all school days there ? Wrong decision... wrong approach... wrong mental attitude.
ReplyDeleteorg mkn kt mangkuk tandas pn x kecoh2...ni baru bilik persalinan da ribut taufan 1 negara....kt china sana siap mkn atas mangkuk tandas pn x jd isu...pas 2 siap mkn sambil buang air besar pn biasa jak... china jg negara maju dr malaysia kn...hahaha...org yg timbulkn isu ni sengaja nk cari pasal d bulan puasa ni antara muslim & non-muslim ni.....rubbish!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteYou did a good job in clarifying d "misconception" bro and congrats to d school authorities for having at least found an immediate "solution" (no matter how stop gap a measure it is) to a "trying" situation!
ReplyDeleteI'm confident that would be for a temporary period of time only. A more appropriate form of action will surely be taken by d authorities to rectify this.
Hopefully, being true Malaysians . . . we will bear with patience some aspects of cases such as this at times . . . and not blow anything and everything out of proportion without looking deep into d matter!
And . . . please avoid comments that will only worsen matters.
Tq for the info... Some people just give comment ... Negative though... Why not instead of bad thought given... Give donation or something to fix the problem.... ;-)
ReplyDeleteMay be the school management perceives the changing room is clean enough for the students and also teachers(as shown in the pic) to have their meal. At 1st, I was quite angry about this as well. But then, when I went through the explanations given by some bloggers including you, it makes a lil sense. Yet, I still feel classroom would be a better choice. A part of that, getting emotional about this matter is okay, but why excessively? Don't we have our washrooms inside our house? Some houses even have it near to dining table/room. Or you want to be back into the last century, having toilets outside of your house. If you're 'over' concern about the hygiene, build toilets outside your house, that would be better. :)
ReplyDeleteYes this could have been avoided if wise judgement was used, there is no sense in having all these small pondok for deco and children not allowed to use them. I have seen school with less facility treating their kids with better consideration. NOW they are justifying their mistake by further having a buka puasa session over there. What a joke. Living in a multi racial country, it is MANDATORY THAT ANYONE on the deision making seat that involves the Public should consider ALL aspects and angles b4 making decisions such as this.Such blunder is not acceptable. There is basic decency on how we treat ppl irrelevent of AGE, RACE, GENDER, RELIGION, a person who does not understands this has no business being in charge of a school much less be involved in ANY WAY to the education system. HE should be removed as a teacher period.
ReplyDeleteNoone with proper common sense would want to eat in a changing room. Let alone a male changing room.
ReplyDeleteWhen was this picture taken? If it is just to prove a point that they willing to eat there after revealing to the net. Nope I don't buy it.
As Educators, they are to educate and take care of the well being of students. To allow them to eat in an unsanitary area, that shows mismanagement of the school that's all.
Nothing about religion.
eventhought is a changing room is still not suitable for student to stay there to eat.. is still have bacteria exist.. better to find a empty class room to solve this issue.. this is not the right way.. please use your brain to think for this.. if you disagree me you youself please go and try to eat at this kind of place everyday..
ReplyDeleteEverywhere have bacteria not only in toilet
DeleteJob well done!
ReplyDeleteSorry la bg saya x sesuai..bilik persalinan ker...boleh jer kot buat khemah ker...
ReplyDeleteThis is the picture of the canteen

thank you!
ReplyDeletebagi saya mmg x sesuai..bilik persalinan ker...buat la khemah ker..ni semua nak keje mudah jer...
ReplyDeleteYes I agree that wise judgement could have been used. What ever the reasoning fact remain children asked to eat in changing room which is UNACCEPTABLE! There is basic code of decency in how we can treat ppl regardless of AGE,RACE,GENDER,RELIGION, PHYSICAL OR MENTAL CAPACITY! Further living in a multiracial country it is Mandatory for each and every decision maker responsible for the public in how they make their decision, and how they conduct them self. This HM who does not understands this has no business in running a school much less be in any way part of our education system.
ReplyDeleteYes this could have been avoided if wise judgement was used, there is no sense in having all these small pondok for deco and children not allowed to use them. ReplyDeleteThis issue is getting more and more ridiculous having morons giving statement that it is OK to eat in the "bilik persalinan". Who are we kidding here? A changing room, kids shower there too, do they not urinate while showering? Even if they don't, which is likely a YES, would you eat in a changing room with showers in it? I'm trying to say that 'bilik persalinan' is not a suitable place for kids to eat. That is the whole point. Please don't try to justify eating in such places by doing acts like "buka puasa session" in the bilik persalinan. Stop The Drama. I don't pay taxes to see kids eating in bilik persalinan!
ReplyDeleteThis is a clear example of mismanagement. U mean there is really really no other alternative aside from changing room. It is a school where kids were taught.. It is also a bad example for the students there.. Soon our kids were to say, Daddy & Mummy it is okay to eat in the toilet or changing room. School also did that, what is cleanliness or hygiene u trying to tell me... It is so wrong..

ReplyDeleteBUKA PUASA IN THE CHANGING ROOM....
ReplyDeleteThe headmaster claims that due to the survey of the changing room by the PIBG reps and the school personnel, they were unable to return home on time to break fast. Therefore, the buka puasa was done in the same changing room. This seems to be a last minute decision and I believe it is okay to buka puasa anywhere but please take a closer look at the photograph and you will notice that they are really eating. However, I am just puzzled with the variety of dishes placed on the table because how could the food be prepared within a very short span of time????? WAS THE FOOD ORDERED OR CATERED VERY MUCH EARLIER???? IS THIS A CAMOUFLAGE??? I may be wrong but please give it a thought!!!!
Anyway, whether it is the fasting month or not, the HM could have arranged a better place for the children to have their food. I wonder whether any teachers used the changing room during the recess time since Mar 2013.
70% of chinese stall are much more unhygienic than this "toilet". Some of them located beside the smelly garbage house, rats everywhere..yet people still like to eat there..yeah so hygienic..Malaysian logic
ReplyDeleteWhy close in Ramadan ? Because in Ramadan you have less people using the canteeen (ramai puasa).. so you can do repair/maintenance and only caused inconvenience to minimum number of users ? Sounds reasonable.
ReplyDeleteWhy close in School Holidays? Because during School Holidays you have NO PEOPLE using the canteen.. so you can do repair/maintenance and caused inconvenience to NO ONE ? Sounds even more reasonable?
DeleteAny better Idea for the School ?

ReplyDeleteWhen this photo has benn taken??? after the issue already spread to public?? during schooling time to create drama and to show all that these teachers also using the same room to have their meals? i wonder why they still in the school during BUKA PUASA time??? wont they love their own family members and buka puasa with family members? all drama... carry on carry on ...
ReplyDeletePlease don't make yourself sounds stupid. Have you heard about Majlis Buka Puasa? People can actually Buka Puasa outside of their house and without their own family. The Muslims fasting for 30 days and some of the days they ought to Buka Puasa outside with friends. It is because that we have a lot of stupid, narrow-minded people like you that small issues turned big. Shame on you.
DeleteSo no discrimination at all laa.. no racist issue.. all are same.. just still not nice to eat in the changing room.. better find nicer place..
ReplyDelete"The school canteen was facing problem in accommodating 350 students who go for recess at same time. This was happening since January 2013"
ReplyDelete- Since January 2013? Could you clarify what about the previous months before that? Couldn't a temporary place built during the school holidays just in time before the schooling period starts?
"This changing room which were equipped with chairs and tables has been operating SINCE March 2013 and not recently as claimed by some blogs. This was an initiative taken by HM to avoid pupil from sitting around the canteen under hot sun."
- It's been happening since March and the school authority did not notify the parents? Again, please bare in mind that these students are primary school kids. For them, a toilet and a changing room with shower could mean the same.
"You can argue why there is sign of ' Tandas' here.. well that is not 'tandas'. It is changing room. There is NO toilet bowl at all and if you watch closely the student is actually taking out shoe to enter the 'Tandas'.The shoes are out there..why??"
- If it's not a tandas then why was the tandas sign placed there *facepalm*. Err. . . from some of the photos I've seen, there were students wearing shoes inside the "tandas". What do you have to say about that?
"Since my day of schooling we dont practice eating inside classroom..."
- Yes, that's because we never had problem with our canteen.
"There are 3 Non-Malay teachers teaching in that school. 2 Indians and an Asli. All of them are aware of this and has no problem with this temporary solution at all. Dont you think if Indians are really being treated badly these two teachers would have raged over it?"
- If I have a problem with my company's management, would I bring it up to them? Of course not! I do not know if these teachers have problem with the kids eating in the "tandas", but if they have problem with it, I believe they will not share with their HM or outsider, simply because they wouldn't want to lose their job.
"The parent who posted this matter in FB only visited the school after being told by a school bus driver that children were eating inside the TOILET. She didnt know that this has been happening since Mac 2013 ."
- If the school had taken the time to notify the parents via simple letter, they wouldn't have heard the news from someone's else mouth.
"This is the other side the story that we all failed to understand. The only question that the HM and the school failed to answer is ' Why the canteen has been closed during Ramadhan? ' Arent these small no of children also need to eat?"
- I remember my schooling days, from Primary to Secondary school, we had never seen the canteen closed even once during fasting period.
You quotes a lot but do you really read this line by line? If you do...then you'll noticeparentthat the PIBG had been informed and they agreed to it. Do you know what the PIBG stands for?
DeleteP = Persatuan
I = Ibu
B = Bapa dan
G = Guru
Which clearly shows us that the parents were already informed about this. The so called 'parent' who posted the picture must be one of many who didn't bother to come for the PIBG meeting thus missed the important information. Who are we to judge when the parties involves namely the HM, Teacher and...Parents had made their decision?
Thank you for letting us in on the flip side. It is so very easy to be judgmental especially when young ones are concerned but there are always two sides to a coin. Cooler head must always prevail.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, to utilize shower/changing room facility as a place to eat is still not a palatable idea.
Whats wrong eating in this changing room..you look at cines or mamak restaurant at night..they put table outside near to what we so called LONGKANG..
ReplyDeleteDon't be to over protective of your kids, even teachers eat there la
progress not regress....I dont know how eating near a longkang is ok to begin with. Just because some do it or think its alright does not mean its ok.
DeleteDo People PEE while taking a Shower in a Shower room..
ReplyDeleteThis episode reveals a larger problem. That is how polarized this society is at the moment now. We chose to focus along racial/religion line instead of pupils as a collective whole when viewing the issue. This shows our govt has failed to address unity issue of the country, despite pouring in resources into unity programs. I believe, if all Malaysians can get equal treatment, resources from such programs can be redirected to build bigger canteens in the first place, thus, helping all pupils, as Malaysians, and not just malays, chinese or indians.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dharm for the balanced report.
In the hope that when the time of the issue in the locker room eating canteen because students can not cope, then the Ministry of Education will approve the budget to build a larger cafeteria.
ReplyDeletei'm very sure, when you have a kid and if he/she is asked to have their meal in whatever room you want to call this crappy place, you'll sing a different song. the drama of buka puasa is so pathetic and its a knee jerk reaction after the school admins got giga fucked online. before this issue brought up, we're those kopiah wearing culprits having their sahur, buka & terawih in that room?
ReplyDeletefacts? rats ass!
says someone who being judgemental and doing nothing to the canteen issue, i bet you not even come to PIBG meeting to discuss the canteen renovation issue? pathethic ignorant
DeleteIs better to hear both side the stories to have a better judgement and clearer pictures. Regardless is a bathroom, wash room, store room. It's the environment that makes people sick to their stomach when consuming food in there. Although is just a temporary solution but this is NOT the right of way to put the students and teachers or even to buka puasa is totally unhygienic. So what is the facilities with basins and water supply are so convenience to the eateries to wash up or the actual toilet is suited 100meters away. I would prefer to eat in the class rather in there. It makes the outsiders thing the school and HM are totally uncivilized and poor judgement in all scenarios. It gives me a second thought to change my kids to other schools.
ReplyDeleteThe teacher are "rajin" lol because buka puasa still work at school after 7pm....
ReplyDeleteCongrats bro for split the story...
We understood...
Great initiative in explaining the school's side of the story, i hope this serve as a lesson to all about believing quickly on 1 side of the story, even when there's picture "evidence". Research is a must before spreading rumors & easy-to-believe news.
ReplyDeleteThank you again for this wonderful insight
So many "keyboard" warrior..... the decision made by the school was with consensus of PIBG. Which mean the parents who highlight the issue were the one who are lazy to attend PIBG Meeting. And wth do some netizen want to relate this issue with Islam? These are the stoooopidest person. Just some keyboard warror
ReplyDeleteSome of you talked about cleanliness is it? Are you clean enough? Is your toilet clean enough? Is your kitchen clean enough? Are your cooking equipment clean enough? Did you ever buy foods by the street?Which the cook is smoking while chopping the chicken?Where stray dogs are playing under you table and you know they never get vaccinated before? And last but not least, did you ever clean your anus with clean water instead wipe it with tissue and left the smell?Did you ever realized it is too dirty, like holding shit on your hand and just wipe it with tissue? Are you clean enough?
ReplyDeletethank you very much. you really have helped clear the confusion a lot. kudos to you
ReplyDeleteIf adult want to eat in the toilet, its their choice, but you cant force kids to do so. I know lot of people hide and eat/drink in toilet during the fasting month. lol
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing the another side of the story. Appreciate it a lot.
ReplyDeleteVery sad that our country still have such mentality People like the HM and you who think it is okay to eat and drink in shower room. Worse still, make mistake/wrong already still wanted to find excuses/argue….. if such people like you failed to change and continue to have such mentality……. You will forever a fail miserably in your life…… and if our country continue to influenced by such people like you and the HM, our country surely going to become a doom country very soon.
ReplyDeleteThis place of eating is not an issue idiot.. you eat too much..
ReplyDeleteThe food that matter, stupid... hahaha..
HOT NEWS - Primary school children mistreated in a school in sg.buloh. My question if a school under renovations, this should be inform to the ministry, because the fund should be from the ministry. So when you hand over the proposal, you should state where the canteen would be, in a blueprint, if the school have a proper documentation. Now the ministry is the 1 to blame. If the blue print stated the children will be eating in toilet or beside toilet, how come educated ass hole ( HEADMASTER, MOE) didn't check properly. If the renovation is about changing the door from wood to glass, this can be done during school holiday.
ReplyDeleteWell said !
DeleteIt is not difficult to implement 2 recess sessions. A lot of schools are doing it in Singapore. Seems like a pretty straight forward and way more elegant solution.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the school should give a satisfactory answer as to why the canteen has been closed during Ramadhan month if they want to convince the public that space constraint is the ONLY reason that the changing room is being used as a makeshift eating room. Having a buka puasa party in the room NOW does nothing to stop the anger. Prove of regular makan sessions of teachers and students of all races in the room BEFORE the incident got hot might help your argument more.
Imho, i would rather stand outside and eat...its still unhygenic to eat in the shower room. If only few days its still ok but few months? No way man. Goverment got money to donate to help african nation education but no money to improve this situation?

ReplyDeleteDuring Puasa Month, Why don't just open the Canteen for those Non-Muslin? (Not in religion angle, just want the students more comfortable)
ReplyDeleteFYI there are still schools that practise removing shoes while going into the toilets! I still dont think this is an appropriate place to eat!
ReplyDeletebagus then buat bilik ini vip dining room aje pwemenent utk gurubesar n cikgu x2. mereka coma boleh mkn kat bilik vip aje. canteen utk budak sekolah aje.
ReplyDeletebelow pic buka puasa isnt just shoot today?n upload to proof tat is fair n they did well?
ReplyDeleteonce "they" created an issue, they will try to defend it no matter what... we are all same aren't we? once u gave the explaination there will be another question, why this and why that. you cnt pleased all the people at the same time.
ReplyDeleteat least this is better then letting the children eat outside UNDER THE HOT SUN isnt it? What is wrong with everyone. This also cannot. That also cannot. There's always something everyone is not happy about. Cant we just give and take?
ReplyDeletethey only like to take...and bash people as well
Deletegood explanation
ReplyDeleteWell finding and there is for sure a good ideas sharing session.
ReplyDeleteSuggest the HM to
1) Split the recess to 2 sessions.
2) Do more change management including communication if the solution is out-of-box.
3) Canteen shall be opened during fasting month because the congestion is not there.
Suggest the netizen to
1) Toilet and Changing room is really differ. i.e Do you pass motion in your changing room ?
2) This topic is not sensitive unless you include it under Religion or Race. This is just administrative problem.
3) Be cool and try to explain to other

Hey, thanks for the clarification,
ReplyDeletejust wondered if that last photo is taken by you?

ReplyDeleteNice work. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHM and PIBG seem rational. Not government or Ministry of Education which is supposed to maintain adequate canteen space.
How about splitting canteen session into 2 sessions, with the older children in Standard 4,5,6 eating 30min later?

Hi Dhanyaraam, would you mind to elaborate how 350 students can fit in two changing rooms since March?
ReplyDeletebut still....it still a shower room....some ppl do pee during shower.....if im the HM i will set up a canopy outside with fans for the childrens.....
ReplyDeleteThank you for your explanation. Its certainly improved the understanding of the issue.
ReplyDeleteDo they explain why they close the canteen for the time being ?
the teachers should eat there each and everytime for six months (since the kids eating there since march) and perhaps it will motivate the school administrators to resolve the issue quickly. i understand the teachers' hands are tied, but this is not a way to solve the problem. poor administration in my books.
ReplyDeleteWhy u do not open up the two doors to show that this is really a changing room that male (teacher or student) is only use for bath? Regardless it is puasa month or not, during normal time, as a school management, a government school, insufficient space, should try to adjust the recess time or request an expansion, instead of converting the room without any refurbishment. More over it is since Jan 2013, which i think a construction work can be finish.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone...its good that we have responsible Samaritan that cleared up such an issue. I guest that is the best the school/HM can do. Reporters some time create havoc for public....so reporter responsible should apologised and do their research assignment before printing news that can jeopardise the racial harmony in our country... I am sure the school board & PIBG is looking into it, and yet to refer to government decision, particularly the education department to deal with the expansion of school facilities.
ReplyDeleteParents sometime taking things for granted and only will triggered by the unreal news...
Parents, please investigate for yourself before listening to untrue news by others that make you parents heart attack...
Thinks wisely, talk wisely and act wisely....
Hi Dhanyaraam, would you mind to elaborate further how 350 students can fit into 2 changing rooms since March?
ReplyDeleteMy kids go to this school. n for those who are saying this is a big school should go and check it yourself b4 u start spreading more lies. i have personally been 2 the room, meetin up my kids. it is very clean. kids who stayback after koko, can have their shower, eat n rest in the room. So, tell me, how many schools are THAT considerate to the kids? they are given a special place to rest before they start their school. parents who put up the pictures in the first place are not actively involve with their kids' activities in school. merely know how to criticize and spread lies. if parents deemed as it is inappropriate, believe me, it wont have survived from mac-july. so, please, enuf said about this issue. we are sick and tired of others who dont know and act as if you are above the others!!
ReplyDeletethanks bro for clarification, racist malaysian nowadays like to perpetuate and hyping every issue, halftruth and lies to call up all the racist people turned enrage. spreading lies like no tomorrow. to racist people i just want to say majority civilized people chinese indian malay, they want peace in this country, we dont need rasict people. peace

ReplyDeleteMalaysians are certainly disgusting, buka puass in changing rooms. Are you guys sick!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the detailed explanation. But I still dont agree a changing room being used as a canteen. The school admin can always stagger the recess to two or three sessions , this would have been a better solution as being practised in schools with 2000 - 3000 and more students. Its clear case of poor judgement and bad management. This admin just wanted an easy solution to a problem which hit them smack in face. Adjusting the timetable would have been much easier and practicle then to renovate the changing room. By the way , where will these students change for their PE and Co-cu activities, in the toilet????
ReplyDeleteWhen the last photo was taken, yesterday after the news started to spread in all social networks? Do u have any other photos taken before Ramadhan started as this place was using as canteen since march 2013..??? wow, very fast photo session has been arranged... wonder why these teachers did not rush to home to buka puasa with family members??? they give more priority to buka puasa with collegues instead family members???? hahahah truth will revealed in the God's court....
ReplyDeletego on.. For those who play up racial issues, blaming Islam, calling names, but hide behind "common sense", "poor judgement" yada yada yada.. I tell u, go on bros... The authority will entertain u, coz they need to.. But not us laymen.. Lay Muslim men.. You just go on..and dont forget, we do know what's your agenda..you know what? Some people DO fight fire with fire... Btw, thanks mr blog owner..appreciate ur effort..
ReplyDeletethere's nothing wrong if the canteen operator choose not to sell during ramadhan month, especially if the school only have few non muslim teachers/students. my office also do not serve drinks to our non muslim/overseas visitors. at least they have proper place to eat, chair with table rather than having to eat while standing.
ReplyDeleteBad judgement
ReplyDeleteThanks for the clarification, bro. Please keep it up.
ReplyDeleteMF
aaaa.. semua orang pandai cakap je. kesian kot sekolah ni xde kantin.
ReplyDeleteMomok
Its good to know the other side of story.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the "Even the school had 'buka puasa session inside the 'toilet' YESTERDAY." photo merely showed a poor attempt by the school to justify its decision. Show us photo of 'buka puasa at the same room' taken PRIOR to the hoohaa, and I will say its genuinely innocent.
TQ for the one sided clarification. What maybe the reasoning , it wrong to ask anyone to eat in a changing room, it still dirty and smelly. This school admin cleaarly lacks mangement skills , and it smacks of bad judgement and insensitivity. Not enough space to accomodate 350 students??? There are schools with upt to more than 3000 students , what do they do , use the toilets too? You are talking nonense. The simple solution would be to stagger the recess so that fewer students would be at the canteen at a particular time. Adjusting the timetable is much simpler. About the Indian teachers, do you think they dare to voice their displeasure? You know better, you as a MIC member , have never questioned you MIC or UMNO bosses. So don't drag these poor teachers to you politics. FInally , why still use the changing room during puasa month? Your arguements do not hold water. The HM and PK HEM has to take the fall. NO MORE excuses for RACIAL DISCRIMINATION.
ReplyDeleteIt's not an excuse at all, eventhough the school had their own fast breaking session in the 'toilet'.
ReplyDeleteCome on lah my dear school authority, pls think wisely & sensibly.
The value of respect is much, much more vital than money at all times.... as Islam does..!
Point is, there're always many ways, but unfortunately, you don't have the will & the sincerity. Otherwise life would have been so easy for anyone.
Granted that this happened even before Ramadhan, the gravity of the situation is even worse that it hasn't been effectively addressed until now.
ReplyDeleteThis does not explain the rest of the story :
1. Why close the canteen for renovation during Ramadhan ? I believe the project schedule could have been better arranged / managed.
2. Why wasn't a better alternative given throughout the long months ? Even if it is a "changing room", that still does not make this place a suitable place to have food. This is just simple logic and hygiene. Anyone who disagrees with this is probably just disagreeing for the sake of argument.
3. Pictures of students wearing shoes inside this changing room is all over the media..Btw the changing room also happens to be located nearby the actual toilet.
Unless if they have no other open space or hall , why not set up a temporary tent at these areas instead ? Whatever it is, this is poor judgement from the school authorities. There are still no satisfactory answers as to why these decisions were made.
Thanks for the other side of the story but however there are too much queries of the HM actions here. Why not spliting the recess sessions? If its the HM purpose to keep the pupils from sitting around the canteen under the hot sun, why not put up some sheds or extend the canteen? How many tables and chairs can you put into the shower room? How many pupils can you cater in this shower room? I dont think many of us would want to eat inside a shower room. During my time, we sit on the bench to hv our food or sit on the floor with our malay friends. Why is the canteen closed during Ramadhan? I thought this is a national school.. Those who are working with the gov would not want to create any chaotic issue eventhough they know the truth deep inside their heart. As long as they are not disturbed... Who wants to offended their boss at their workplace...
ReplyDeleteThe ORIGINAL reason this issue got the 15-minute fame was because it was reported by guneshwary kelly as a "mistreatment of non-muslims". Had this been a 100% malay muslim school, not single F would have been given.
ReplyDeleteOklah just assume really not enough space at canteen . let do some maths . 350 student 95% non muslim = 18 non muslim student . So why use changing room during ramadan ? Canteen can't accomodate 18 student ?
ReplyDeleteOklah just assume really not enough space at canteen . let do some maths . 350 student 95% non muslim = 18 non muslim student . So why use changing room during ramadan ? Canteen can't accomodate 18 student ?
ReplyDeleteIt all boils down to poor administrative judgement on the part of the HM/teachers/PIBG. I don't think there is any school canteen that can cater to all their students at one particular time. They could just have staggered break. It's so stupid of them.
ReplyDeleteAnd the buka puasa in the Changing room is just a sandiwara. School still open after 7pm ???
OK, since now it is the right thing to do to break fast in the changing/shower room, can i suggest that they have ALL buka puasa sessions there from now on til the end of Raya?
ReplyDeleteThe other children can use the canteen and since it is Ramadhan, I am sure it is under utilised since a majority of children are not eating?
ah! For those trying to reason.. Don't bother bro.. They'll never be satisfied with whatever you say.. Why would they? Having a field day mouthing expletives don't they? Let them.. Hiding behind anonimity, everybody is a warrior harharhar
ReplyDeleteWhether or not the changing rooms are clean or near the canteen or apa-apa ke, children eating in a washing facility is wrong, PERIOD!
ReplyDeleteHow can anyone with the right frame of mind even rationalize this? So what if the canteen is too small? So what if the changing rooms have sinks? Does that mean we are allowed to put children up to such degradation?
It is just incredibly typical of the Asian teaching method to just tell children what to do, as if they are mindless drones. Asian teachers never provide children with the appropriate amount of respect.
Its's time to buck the eff up, teachers and principals of SK Pristana! You lot are an utter embarrassment and shouldn't be able to deem yourselves educators.
PS: To clean up this whole debacle, why not allow the kids to enjoy their meals in the staff-room. The teachers and principal on the other hand, can enjoy the sweet luxuries and extravagance that so supposedly come hand-in-hand with said washing facilities.
I think everyone is missing the point. School children should be provided a proper sanitary and respectful place to consume food. Just because it's not a toilet does not mean it's sanitary. How many children do you know who doesn't pee in the shower? Holding a party in the shower to show how adults too can eat in there is ridiculous PR stunt. It is not going to help the HM look any more intelligent in making decision.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the writer says that from his experience, no one practices eating in classrooms. So, it is normal to practice eating in showers? That dont make any sense at all.
This is a simple problem of over-crowding. The HM needs to take the time (yes, it will be tedious with lots of planning & paperwork) to actually split the school time table for 2 recess sessions - I had this in my schools both primary & secondary.
Lastly, the school needs to provide a clear explanation on why the canteen was closed during this past month.
When do u visit the school? Do u hv any proof??
ReplyDelete1. If shoes not allowed in that room why I can see some wear shoes in the buka puasa pic??
ReplyDelete2. including Malays were using this room as their 'canteen' - What you trying to say here. Our concern in why KIDS are eating in the changing room. regardless Malay, Indian, Chinese, Asli!!
I can see that the bathrooms are indeed bathrooms. But the question is why aren't the students allowed to use the canteen now that the majority of students are fasting.
ReplyDeleteIt would be more convincing if the teachers were seen eating there before the whole issue got blown up. Now people would just say they're doing that for the sake of "show".
More interested on the last sentence of u sending your kids to tamil school. *thumbs up*
ReplyDeleteall the people here only know how to talk talk talk talk talk and act so pro in commenting. without knowing other info you talk as if you know everything about the school and how it operates. had there been any better alternatives don't you think they would have taken the steps to do so ? then why the hell did the pibg ok'ed it in the first place ? and what ? The parents don't know about this since march ? To make matters worst some of you turned it into a racist issue now ?
ReplyDeleteTo many racist minded people. ..cannot think wisely in giving comment. What will happen to malaysia in future I dont know....seriously....be it indian or chinese or malay....all are same.
ReplyDeleteWhy only yesterday baru ada buka puasa in the 'TOILET'? What a sandiwara?
ReplyDeleteChanging room with shower tab? Sure nobody pee inside while having shower to clean up? After sports activity go take shower.. the shower room sure smell nice ritee? If canteen renovation, give la student eat inside classroom not tell them eat at changing room. Last time during skool days puasa month, recess time... classroom automatic convert become resting/sleeping place. Those student not puasa were told to get out from classroom and cant eat inside class. But if not puasa mth.. no problem.. students can eat at class during recess time. Why not let those student eat inside classroom, and ask the puasa student go rest/sleep elsewhere instead instead?
ReplyDeleteSuperbly written. I love your ending note. Had a hearthy laugh. Thanks for.doing this. There are always 2 sides to a coin.
ReplyDeleteSuddenly all people are stating it's unhygenic to eat in that changing room when the reality is most stalls and eating places that they frequently go are no better than that. If eating near a 'toilet' is so disgusting...then I think half of malaysian are leading a disgusting life as for those who live in a single storey houses...the toilet is situated at the kitchen, very near to our dining table. Should we also petition the government to take actin against it?
ReplyDeleteDo you pee while showering?
ReplyDeleteI can see some malays react about this issue.
Their mindset never change.
Malaysians nowadays are so weak! Cannot eat in changing room meh! Go to Manila, people live in rubbish dump. And you guys still wanna play racial card? Blaming Malays for discrimination while it is all about school administration.
ReplyDeleteAnd good job bro for the clarification on the issue.
makluman dari Puan Guneswari disertakan gambar, tiada renovation di kantin sekolah.

Why closed the canteen during Ramadhan? It's simple...think of it from a business perspective. I've read from one of many blogs that cover this story, the non muslim in the school are only around 30 pupils. If I am the canteen operator... I myself would not want to open the canteen during fasting month. Why bother to sell to only 30 people when you can make more money selling food at bazar ramadhan?
